The Dugan D-2 Automatic Mixing Controller helps professional audio mixers manage multiple live microphones in fast-moving environments like broadcast, live events, recording, and sound reinforcement. This eight-channel processor patches into the insert points of an audio mixing console, then automatically detects who is speaking and applies fast, transparent cross-fades so you can stay focused on overall balance and sound quality instead of riding faders.
Automatic Mixing for Unpredictable Dialogue
The D-2’s voice-controlled mixing follows natural conversation seamlessly, helping prevent late fade-ups and cueing mistakes without the choppy artifacts common to hard gating. It also helps reduce feedback and ambient noise pickup by keeping unused microphones attenuated, which is especially useful on panels, conferences, worship, and multi-mic stages.
Console-Friendly Integration and Flexible Control
Insert loop patching lets you keep full use of your mixing console’s channel processing and workflow while the D-2 handles mic sharing automatically. A separate control panel can be positioned horizontally on a tabletop or vertically on a meter bridge, making it easy to operate in both FOH and broadcast control-room layouts. Three control groups support maintaining constant ambience with L-C-R panned microphones, and you can choose between two automatic mixing algorithms for speech and music applications.
Expandable System, Remote Logic, and Legacy Linking
Built-in expandability allows linking units for up to 64 channels (optical daisy-chain up to 8 units). The D-2 also links with analog Model D and Model D-1 controllers via a legacy link input. For integration with external systems, remote control capabilities include Logic I/O for per-channel mutes, system override, system mute, and channel active flags.
