Meyer UPM-1P Powered Speaker
Description
These units may show signs of heavy wear but are in good working condition.
The Meyer UPM-1P Powered Speaker is a remarkably compact, self-powered, professional sound reinforcement loudspeaker system built for applications that need a small, inconspicuous cabinet without giving up high sound pressure levels, extremely low distortion, or uniform directional control.
Applications and system roles
The UPM-1P loudspeaker provides vocal-range reinforcement as a small PA system or as a fill or delay loudspeaker in larger indoor or outdoor systems. With a wide, symmetrical 100° x 100° coverage pattern, it is well suited for covering broad listening areas consistently in corporate A/V, theatre, houses of worship, and distributed reinforcement layouts.
Driver and crossover design for consistent coverage
The UPM-1P high-frequency section comprises a 1-inch metal dome tweeter on a symmetrical, constant-directivity, high-frequency horn with 100° beamwidth. The metal dome driver provides an exceptionally smooth high-frequency characteristic. At lower frequencies, sophisticated phase-correction circuitry ensures true point-source performance without the off-axis cancellation effects that plague customary dual-woofer designs.
Two 5-inch low-frequency cone drivers are driven in parallel at low frequencies to take advantage of their combined acoustic output. To prevent destructive interference and comb filtering effects in the mid-band frequencies close to the crossover area, one of the drivers rolls off above 320 Hz. This unique crossover approach helps maintain a consistent midrange response across the listening area.
Performance and audio specifications
- Operating Frequency Range: 75 Hz – 20 kHz
- Frequency Response: 80 Hz – 16 kHz ±4 dB
- Phase Response: 415 Hz – 16 kHz ±45°
- Linear Peak SPL: 118.5 dB with crest factor >14 dB (M-noise), 113 dB (Pink noise), 115.5 (B-noise)
- Low Frequency: Two 5-inch cone drivers; 8 Ω nominal impedance
- High Frequency: One 1-inch metal dome tweeter; 8 Ω nominal impedance
Power and electronics
Amplification uses complementary MOSFET output stages (class AB/bridged) with 650 W peak total output power, convection cooling, and THD, IM, TIM < 0.02%.
Inputs, connectivity, and gain structure
Balanced analog audio is handled via differential, electronically balanced I/O with XLR 3-pin female input and a male loop output. Optional 5-pin connectors accommodate both balanced audio and RMS signals. Input impedance is 10 kΩ differential between pins 2 and 3.
Nominal input sensitivity is 0 dBV (1.0 V rms) continuous, typically the onset of limiting for noise and music. For maximum peak SPL over the operating bandwidth, the audio source must be capable of producing +20 dBV (10 V rms) into 600 Ω.
Wiring: Pin 1 is chassis/earth through 220 kΩ, 1000 pF, 15 V clamp network to provide virtual ground lift at audio frequencies, Pin 2 is Signal +, Pin 3 is Signal –. Case is earth ground and chassis. Maximum common mode range is ±15 V DC, clamped to earth for voltage transient protection.
Enclosure, rigging, and installation
The enclosure is premium multi-ply birch with a slightly textured black finish, protected by a powder-coated, hex-stamped steel grille with black mesh. For mounting flexibility, the cabinet includes three 3/8-inch-16 or metric M10 nut plates for rigging.
