The Christie Spyder X20 is a versatile hardware-based video processor combined with the flexibility of a universal routing switcher for live event production, fixed AV installations, and multi-display control rooms. It provides users with a 20 megapixel bandwidth to blend, window, mix, and scale virtually any source format, then route that signal to any destination device or combination of display devices, quickly and easily. Its integrated source monitoring enables simultaneous, real-time, full frame rate monitoring of all inputs, helping operators verify sources at a glance before switching or building layouts.

Processing and Routing in One Unit

The Spyder X20 reduces the amount of wires, boxes, and rack space traditionally required because processing and distribution are consolidated into a single chassis. Internal matrix switching and universal input/output capabilities allow you to mix and match multiple formats with one piece of equipment, making it well-suited for environments where signal types and display requirements change from show to show.

Inputs, Outputs, and Format Conversion

Input capability is either 8 or 16 inputs (depending on model) and can be a mix of analog BNC and DVI signals. The Spyder X20 provides 8 outputs that natively support displays ranging from component analog 480i to digital 4K. Built-in conversion supports analog/digital, interlaced/progressive, resolution, aspect ratio, and refresh rate conversions, simplifying integration with legacy sources and modern displays. Define properties for each output independent of each signal, and use per-output rotation to create vertically-oriented displays when required.

Monitoring, 2D/3D, and Show Control

Integrated source monitoring provides a real-time, full frame-rate view of all sources connected to the Spyder X20 (either 16 or 8 inputs) on a single output, tiled into either a 4x4 array (X20-1608) or a 4x2 array (X20-0808). 2D and 3D capabilities support managing and displaying multiple 3D sources. For visual presentation workflows, the Spyder X20 includes user-definable edge blending and tiling, plus configurable window borders and drop shadows (color, width, softness, shadow offset, and transparency). Online editing mode allows preset displays to be built and edited in preview mode without affecting what the audience is seeing.

Control Options and Technical Specifications

Control the Spyder X20 from the front panel, from a PC via Ethernet, or through an external control system, providing a single point of control for processing and signal distribution functions. The system supports 10-bit processing for smooth gradients and accurate image handling in demanding presentation environments. Dimensions (LxWxH) are 21.9 x 17.3 x 7.0 inches (556 x 439 x 178mm).
