Designed for multi-zone commercial audio, the Yamaha MTX5-D 34 x 16 matrix processor serves as the central DSP and routing engine for systems in retail stores, restaurants and bars, banquet rooms, and other distributed sound environments. Using the MTX Editor software, you can configure, program, and manage zone routing, processing, and presets from a single interface, making it easier to deploy consistent audio across multiple areas.

Matrix Mixing and Zone DSP for Commercial Installs

As a 34 x 16 matrix mixer / signal processor, the MTX5-D is built to handle multiple sources and destinations at once, helping you route microphones, background music, and paging to the right zones with the right processing. It includes practical, install-focused functions intended to keep day-to-day operation stable, including Feedback Suppressor, Auto Gain Control, Priority Ducker, and a Dugan Automixer for managing multiple microphones.

I/O, Expansion, and Network Integration

Inputs include 8 mono (mic/line), 2 stereo (line), and 16 digital (via YDIF). Outputs include 8 mono (line) and 16 digital (via YDIF). YDIF is Yamaha’s proprietary digital transmission format that carries 16 channels of audio and word clock over standard CAT5 Ether cable. The MTX5-D can expand YDIF-equipped inputs and outputs with Exi8/Exo8 expanders, and the MY card slot adds further expandability and compatibility with other audio formats.

For larger installations, the unit is equipped with a 16 channel I/O on-board Dante network port, supporting networked audio workflows alongside its local and YDIF connectivity.

Control Options and Playback

For day-to-day zone operation, you can remotely control volume and presets using DCP series wall-mount digital controllers. The unit is also equipped with a Network port and GPI ports for compatibility with touch panel controllers such as AMX and Crestron. For simple content playback, an SD card slot supports playback of MP3/WAV files stored on an SD Memory Card. Two built-in digital processors, Reverb and Echo, are included for entertainment applications.
