The Doug Fleenor DMX to AMX Converter converts a DMX control signal to AMX, supporting up to 192 dimmers. The DMX to AMX converter allows the installation of control consoles that lack AMX outputs into a system of AMX dimmers.

Designed for lighting control systems where you need to integrate a DMX console with legacy AMX dimmer infrastructure, this converter bridges protocols without requiring an AMX-capable console. It is well-suited for upgrades, console replacements, and mixed-protocol venues that want to keep existing AMX dimming while moving to DMX control.

Signal and Connectivity Details

The input supports 250 Kilobaud (CMX's 153.6 Kilobaud is optional) with 0.2 volts minimum and 12 volts maximum. The input circuit uses an EIA-485 receiver with a 22 K-Ohm pull up on +Data and a 22 K-Ohm pull down on -Data. Connections are made via a gold plated 5 pin male (Neutrik D-1 series) input connector, plus a gold plated 5 pin female (Neutrik D-1 series) input pass through where all five pins are passed through.

On the AMX side, the output signal is defined as: Data clock 8 uS (micro seconds), Reset clock 50 uS followed by 15 uS delay, and Frame rate 60 uS period. Analog data precedes the rising edge of clock by 10 uS, with an analog level of 0 to 5.3 volts. The output circuit includes an EIA-485 driver for clock and NPN active pull up, 200 ohm passive pull down, and 24 ohm series resistor for analog data. Output is provided on gold plated 4 pin male (Neutrik D-1 series) connector(s) with pinout: Pin 1 COMMON, Pin 2 CLOCK+, Pin 3 ANALOG DATA, Pin 4 CLOCK-.
