The Gefen USB 400 FO S/R Extender Package extends USB 2.0 connections from a computer to a remote location over multi-mode fiber, making it a practical choice when USB devices must be placed far from the host system. It supports all USB 2.0 devices, extending to 1640 feet (500 meters) using 50/125μm multi-mode fiber, or 900 feet (275 meters) using a 62.5/125 μm multi-mode fiber. The receiver end is also a four USB 2.0 hub, allowing multiple peripherals to be connected at the remote endpoint.

Long-Distance USB Extension Over Fiber

By using fiber optic cables, the USB 400 FO extends a long distance from the location of a computer and provides an EMI-free solution for using USB at remote locations. Fiber can also be ideal for environments where electrical interference is a concern or where optical isolation helps protect equipment.

Device Compatibility and Expansion

“Extreme USB” technology is used to extend the range of USB 2.0 devices while maintaining support for both low-speed and high-speed USB devices. It is fully backward-compliant with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 specifications as certified by the USB Implementation, and supports high speed devices up to 480Mbps. It supports all operating systems including Windows, Mac OS, and Linux, and the number of USB devices can be expanded using standard USB hubs.
