Designed for concerts, car shows, sporting tournaments, indeed any event in a large venue, the Robe ROBIN Tarrantula is a high-output LED wash/beam fixture built to deliver punchy brightness, fast coverage changes, and eye-catching aerial effects from a single unit. It is powered by 36x 40W RGBW and 1x 60W RGBW high powered emitters for a stunning 20,150 lm output, making it well suited for arenas, festival stages, and large production rigs where fixture count and visual impact both matter.

Optics and Output for Tight Beams or Wide Wash

The versatile optical system offers an adjustable beam angle, from a tight 4° spot to a super-wide 50° wash, so you can go from concentrated mid-air beams to broad, even stage coverage without swapping fixtures. Robe’s proprietary optical design and high-efficiency zoom system (12.5:1 ratio) help maintain usable intensity across the range, rated up to 80,200 lx @ 5 m.

Flower Effect and Pixel-Driven Looks

Central to the effects capabilities of this fixture is the exclusive Robe “Flower Effect” adding yet another spectacular visual dimension. Driven by the 60W RGBW multichip, this creates the sharpest spikes of light, rotating in either direction with controlled speed for dynamic mid-air textures and cue-friendly movement. For show builds that rely on content-driven lighting, the Tarrantula supports individual control of each RGBW pixel, plus pre-programmed pixel effects including chases, waves, pulses, and variable-speed strobe (up to 20 flashes per second).

Color Control and Dimming for Camera-Ready Transitions

Fully saturated and intense colours as well as subtle pastel tones are created with velvety smooth transitions thanks to the integrated internal 18-bit LED dimming system. You can work in RGBW or CMY mixing modes, add precise white-temperature matching with variable CTO (2,700K to 8,000K), or quickly access looks using the virtual colour wheel with 66 preset swatches. A tungsten lamp effect at whites (2,700K and 3,200K) provides red shift and thermal delay for classic incandescent-style fades.

Networking, Control Protocols, and System Integration

Dynamic video effects are easily achieved by mapping individual pixels controlled by a DMX desk or media servers via sACN with internal HTP merging, DMX or by Kling-Net protocol. For integration into modern lighting networks and consoles, supported protocols include USITT DMX-512, RDM, Art-Net, MA Net, MA Net2, sACN, and Kling-Net, with six DMX modes and channel footprints ranging from 27 to 195 to match your workflow and the level of control you need.

Movement Performance and Rig Stability

Pan and tilt movement (540° pan, 220° tilt) supports both Standard and Speed control, with 16-bit resolution for smooth positioning and repeatable cues. Robe’s EMSTM Electronic Motion Stabilizer helps reduce beam deviation caused by truss movement or vibration, and automatic pan/tilt position correction helps maintain accurate focus in demanding touring environments.

Practical Operation and Long-Term Use

Onboard configuration uses the ROBE Navigation System 2 (RNS2) with a QVGA Robe touch screen, including battery backup, a gravitation sensor for auto screen positioning, service logging with RTC, and a built-in analyser for easier fault finding. Typical lumen maintenance is rated 70% at 20,000 hours, with LED life expectancy listed as a minimum of 50,000 hours. The fixture measures 587 mm (H) x 508 mm (W) x 257 mm (D) and weighs 21.2 kg (46.7 lbs), balancing touring-ready performance with manageable rigging weight.
