NEW ROBE ROBIN MegaPointe

The Robe MegaPointe is an all-in-one moving head fixture designed for stage, touring, and event lighting where you need a single unit to deliver bright, sharp parallel beams, crisp gobo projection, and smooth color with precise movement. It combines a cutting-edge optical system with a 470W short-arc discharge lamp to produce a crystal-clear, razor-edged beam with a zoom range from a punchy 1.8 to a wide 42 degrees, making it equally at home as a tight aerial beam effect or a broader spot and wash look.

Developed by the Robe R&D team in collaboration with Osram, the optical and lamp pairing helps maintain a high-contrast, flat field for in-air effects and projected images. Both static and rotating glass gobos are engineered for precision, so patterns stay sharp through focus changes and movement cues.

Optics, Color, and Beam Shaping

MegaPointe supports smooth CMY color mixing (0–100%) alongside a 13-filter color wheel plus white, giving you fast, repeatable color looks for shows with tight programming schedules. Variable frost options (1 degree light frost and 5 degree medium frost) let you soften edges for wash-style cues without losing output. For shaping, the fixture includes innovative shutter emulation that creates rectangular beam shapes which are rotatable and indexable, useful for cleaner scenic hits or controlled key light without stepping up to a dedicated framing fixture.

Gobos, Animation, and Multi-Effect Engine

For texture and motion, MegaPointe includes a rotating gobo wheel with 9 rotating, indexable, replaceable gobos plus open, and a static gobo wheel with 14 gobos plus open. An aluminium animation wheel can be used alone or combined with gobos, rotating in both directions at variable speed for layered movement and atmospheric effects. The newly designed effects engine features 6 prisms across two wheels to generate 12 Beam and Flower effects, expanding looks without needing additional fixtures or external effect units.

Control, Networking, and Programming Flexibility

The fixture supports USITT DMX-512 and RDM, plus network protocols including ArtNet, MA Net, MA Net2, and sACN, making it straightforward to integrate into modern console workflows and distributed systems. Two DMX protocol modes are available with 39 or 34 control channels. Pan and tilt can be run at 8 or 16-bit resolution (540 degrees pan, 265 degrees tilt) for fast hits or smooth, fine positioning. MegaPointe also includes pre-programmed random strobe and pulse effects, plus 0 to 100 percent dimming with 8 or 16-bit control for consistent fades.

Lamp System and Practical On-Show Operation

Light is generated by an approved Osram Sirius HRI 470 W RO discharge short arc lamp with integrated reflector, driven by an electronic ballast with automatic and remote on/off control. Rated lamp lifetime is 1,500 hours at 470W Standard mode or 2,000 hours at 380W Eco mode, helping crews balance output and maintenance cycles. The fixture offers CRI selection (80 or 90) with a listed CCT light output of 6,300 K (lamp CCT 7,500 K). Remote hot-spot control is adjustable from 5:1 to 2.5:1 in spot mode and from 7:1 to 2.7:1 in beam mode, allowing you to tune center intensity to match camera needs, aerial looks, or scenic projection requirements.

User Interface and Fixture Management

Setup and service are supported by the ROBE Navigation System 2 (RNS2) with a QVGA Robe touch screen, battery backup, gravitation sensor for auto screen positioning, and an operation memory service log with RTC. For stand-alone use, it provides 3 editable programs (each up to 100 steps), plus a built-in analyser to assist with fault finding during prep or on-site troubleshooting.

MegaPointe measures 640 mm (25.2 in) high with the head in vertical position, 396 mm (15.6 in) wide, and 230 mm (9.1 in) deep, with a weight of 22 kg (48.5 lb), making it a practical choice for touring rigs where output and feature density need to stay within typical moving-head weight constraints.
