 Inside The Tech... LiDAR

The demand for seamless, responsive and data-rich environments is growing fast. Whether it's an installation that reacts to customer movement or an activation that tailors content in real time, the magic often lies in how a space understands and reacts to the people within it.

One technology that we utilise to empower this shift is LiDAR, a remote sensing technology that uses lasers to measure distances.

LiDAR can be used in event spaces in various ways, from tracking movement with high accuracy and detecting gestures, to measuring dwell time and engagement zones.

It's fast, invisible to the human eye, and requires no wearables or touchpoints - ideal for environments where smooth, contactless interaction is key.

How does LiDAR work?
By emitting rapid pulses of light that bounce off objects and return to the sensor, LiDAR calculates how long it takes for the light to return. This enables it to build a highly accurate, 3D map of its surroundings.

LiDAR in action
Event Tech Live 2023

On our stand at Event Tech Live 2023, we used LiDAR's ability to detect hand movements, body position, and proximity to create a fully interactive custom game that enabled users to pop balloons and reveal digital paint splats across the LED canvas, creating a unique piece of digital art every time.

Studio 19

In our Studio 19 experience, we used LiDAR tech to transform the video content based on the user's position.

When approached, the content on our transparent LED would shift to open a portal, revealing a podium piece behind the LED. This portal would then dynamically close once the user had stepped away.
